Handcrafted 30” x 24” Ranganthar Tanjore Painting with real gold foil. The (Sanskrit: दशावतार, daśāvatāra) are the ten primary avatars of Vishnu, a principal Hindu god. Vishnu is said to descend in the form of an avatar to restore cosmic order. The word Dashavatara derives from daśa, meaning "ten", and avatāra, roughly equivalent to "incarnation". Thanjavur paintings are characterized by rich and vivid colors, simple iconic composition, antique 22 carat gold foils overlaid on delicate but extensive gesso work and inlay of glass beads and pieces or very rarely precious and semi-precious gems.
